Alison Mitchell – Unlemon Exhibition in Goolwa

Alison Mitchell, Plastic, oil on linen, 40 x 60cm

Unlemon, a meandering tale of citrus, presented by Alison Mitchell, is making it’s latest stop in Goolwa as part of its national tour supported by a Regional Arts Fund Grant.

The exhibition will be on show at South Coast Regional Art Centre from Friday, 17 March to Sunday, 16 April, officially launching on Saturday, 18 March from 2:30pm with opening speaker Tony Kanellos, Senior Curator at History Trust of SA.

Alison describes the exhibition as “a reimagining of seventeenth century Dutch art, where paintings of citrus – peel unfurling – evoked representations of wealth, exoticism, trade and expansion. The exhibition continues in the still life genre, exploring citrus’ symbiotic relationship with us humans, in both its global success and the disease that threatens to devastate the species. Underpinning this is the crucial role played by Australia’s own native citrus.”

Prior to showing in Goolwa, the exhibition has been shown in the following locations:
Adelaide Botanic Gardens, SA
Bundaberg Regional Galleries, QLD
Mildura Arts Centre, NSW
Riddoch Gallery, Mount Gambier
Griffith Regional Gallery, NSW

The South Coast Regional Art Centre, BF Laurie Lane, Goolwa is open Wed-Fri 11am to 4pm, and Sat-Sun 10am to 4pm.
